breakfast in rome
Wednesday, January 20, 2010
ciao!
Greetings from Rome! Got here on Sunday. It hasn't even been 4 nights but it already feels like I've been here forever and the days feel soooo long. I haven't been feeling too hungry lately, probably because I didn't eat much in the days before I left, but still, there's so much good food around me I feel bad not eating it all. Also, no to-go bags in Italy? Bad news
Been eating out a lot, so we made dinner yesterday. Gnocchi with spinach, prosciutto, mozzarella, and parmesan. Credit to Abby Edo and melissa, who will probs be a guest writer for 19meals. Look out

my to-eat list
Friends,
I made a lot of things this break, like Christmas dinner and turkey pot pie and lots of pico de gallo. I also ate a lot of things. I didn't take a lot of pictures, and the pictures I took are not going to be on here any time soon because I enjoyed being home too much (in my queen size bed, perfectly heated room, having love and affection showered on me like the only child that I am, not doing my dishes and dropping crumbs on the floor without worrying that mice will eat them and crawl on my bed, and getting good at video games with my pals) to update it. And now, I am going to Rome this Saturday for six months, so really who cares about what I ate over break? And if you do, then it's too bad.
But I have a list of things I definitely have to eat when I'm in Italy and other miscellaneous European countries. So here it is:

I wanted to make pico de gallo because I am obsessed with it. It is probably one of my favorite things to eat even though I have to brush my teeth vigorously afterward and not talk directly to anyone for a few hours. But we didnt have tomatoes!! So Neal told me to use mangoes, which I had, so it was exciting, but then it turns out my mom ate the last one and I was so sad. I rolled around on my kitchen floor, which really meant that I sort of rocked back and forth because my kitchen is not big enough for a lot of full body rolls. But then I had a great idea to make a sour cream dip with pico de gallo ingredients, so I just added tiny chopped pieces of red onion, lemon juice, lots of cilantro, and some pepper. It was great, but probably a bad idea that I ate it on my bed then immediately lied down after eating it.
Also, I have come to realize that I confuse other feelings for hunger a lot. Im actually not hungry that often. But I always think I'm hungry then take two bites and realize that I'm not, but I eat anyway. One day, when I am about 35 and past the prime of my life, I will start to address this problem by exercising and eating baked chicken and fish. But not yet.
